Bulawayo Chiefs, Herentals in Chibuku Super Cup Final

Herentals and Bulawayo Chiefs football clubs on Sunday both stormed into the The Chibuku Super Cup as they aim to get their first silverware after beating FC Platinum and Black Rhinos respectively.

Both teams won on penalties after Herentals beat cup holders FC Platinum 4-3 after a 1-1 tie during stipulated time while the Black Rhinos-Bulawayo Chiefs match saw the later progressing on a 5-4 penalty score line after the match had ended goalless in regulation time.

With both teams having never claimed any silverware this year’s finale will be a different occurrence at the country’s premier knockout tournament.

With the country’s local football giants Caps United, Dynamos Highlanders having all been eliminated during the earlier stages of the competition, analyst’s had automatically anticipated FC Platinum retaining the trophy.

With Zimbabwean teams banned from international football competitions following CAF’s disapproval of alleged government interference in football such tournaments have been the solitary silverware sources for local football teams.

The Chibuku Super Cup is a rebranded version of one of the country’s oldest soccer tournaments which is funded the premier league sponsors, Delta, through their opaque beer brand Chibuku Super.
