Glendale Residents cry foul over allocation of stands

Glendale residents have shown discontent towards their Council (Mazowe Rural District Council) over the practice of allocating multiple stands to unnamed prominent figures.

During a rally launched Mazowe District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) led by Tafadzwa Musarara in Glendale on Friday residents have pleaded with the campaigning DCC committee to resolve corruption rocking their Council over the allocation of stands for a long period of time.

Residence complained on how they are being kept on the waiting list for long whilst others have fully paid for their stands but not yet allocated the stands.

“We are being kept on the waiting list for years while the rich are being offered stands there and there without being waitlisted” said one of the ladies who attended the rally.

Vendors also complained saying the council is not paying attention to any of their complains towards the creation of place to raise marketing stalls.

However, with the interest to defend the party’s interest the youth league and vendors further heightened the issue and vowed to disobey instructions from the council to remove their market stalls from places owned by people with multiple residential and business stands in the Tsungubvi area

Council chairman John Mudzonga dismissed allegations of corruption saying the council has been using a waiting list to give out stands but had a backlog.

“We are following the waiting list but the problem is we have some people who paid in full but we’re not allocated their stands by the previous leadership so we are trying to squeeze them in that it why it seems as though we do not follow the waiting list,” Mudzonga said.

While concluding the rally Musarara warned against the practice of unlawful ownership of multiple stands and ordered the arrest of perpetuators of corruption in the area.
