Miss Albinism Zimbabwe 2021, Shane Lawrence has been selected as the brand ambassador of the Africa Travel Tourism Disability (ATTD) expo and Awards in Malawi.
The 2022 ATTD Expo will be held from 1-3 December 2022 in Lilongwe at the Bingu Wamutharika International Convection Centre, in celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In a statement released by Purple Signs Global, there is going to be a golf tournament to be held at the Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi in conjunction with the Expo.
The statement added that Miss Deaf Africa 2019, Chimwemwe Kamkambwa and Paralympics Golf medallist 2000 and 2004; Elliot Mujaji will be the official ambassadors at the Africa Travel, Tourism and Disability Expo and awards.
Malawian minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati will be welcoming delegates at the opening ceremony and awards.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) about 15% of the world’s population (1 billion+ people) lives with some form of disability of whom 2-4% experience significant difficulties in functioning.
“Accessibility for all to tourism facilities, products and services should be a central part of any responsible and sustainable tourism policy.
“Accessibility is not only about human rights. It is a business opportunity for destinations and companies to embrace all visitors and enhance their revenues” read the statement.
The statement highlighted that by joining the Africa Travel, Tourism and Disability Expo and Awards 2022 Edition you will gain access to a powerful community of regulators, Global and Africa’s executive level tourism sector stakeholders academia, tech SMEs and Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) driving accessible tourism for Persons With Disabilities and promoting accessible destination Africa.
This is in line with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Inclusive Recovery Guide on Socio cultural impacts of Covid 19 issues.
The statement added that PWDs agenda 2063 Tourism Strategy objectives is to drive full participation and access by Persons with Disabilities in the travel and tourism industry’s socio –economic activities.
The 2022 Africa Travel, Tourism and Disability Expo and Awards will be run under the theme “The excellent Quality Travel and Tourism Experience We Want”.
