Police Shoot Civilians in Chitungwiza

Detective’s from the Zimbabwe Republic Police unfortunately shot civilians in Chitungwiza who are currently in hospital following a faceoff with a suspected serial robber identified as Denis Madondo at Taita shops in the dormitory town.

According to a press statement issued by the police, “ The suspect noticed detectives approaching and drew a airgun pistol from his jacket before pointing it to the detectives. In response, the detectives fired a warning shot into the air and later shot towards the suspect and missed him.”

“After about an hour, it emerged that the bullet which missed the suspect had hit Tashinga Mugwara and Pamela Muchazorwei. The two victims sustained serious injuries and are currently admitted at Chitungwiza Hospital and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals respectively.”

While the force emphasised the unfortunate events as they sought to combat crime which has been on the increase of late, grey areas still stand as how it took more than an hour to note ‘serious injuries’ on civilians who should have been arguably close to their target.
