Zimbabwe will host COP 15 which focuses on Wetlands in 2025 in the County’s nature majestic Vic Falls as approved and announced by Cabinet in Harare this week as Zimbabwe seeks to fully embrace Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events (MICE) development.
“The nation is being informed that the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry intends to host the 15th Conference of Parties in 2025 in the prime tourist destination of Victoria Falls.” The Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services said yesterday.
“The hosting of COP 15 will spur the Second Republic’s international community re-engagement and engagement agenda and prove that the country is a peaceful, stable, growing and attractive international travel destination.” The Chairperson of the Post Cabinet Brief Monica Mutsvangwa also said.
The country which has been applauded globally for environmental and wetlands conservation following ratification to the RAMSAH Convention and the subsequent conservation of some strategic conservation of national wetlands including Mana pools expects to advantage global influence in environmental issues.
“The resort City of Victoria Falls is evidence that the country is committed to sustainable utilization and conservation of natural resources. Furthermore, the event will provide local tourism players with a platform to market the country as a tourist destination and attract foreign investment.” The Manicaland Senator also said.
Furthermore, “The country will also take advantage of COP 15 to extend its influence and leadership on the global stage in environmental governance, stewardship and diplomacy.” Mutsvangwa emphasised.
Zimbabwe which has seen a cocktail of environmental conservation mechanisms which include 10 year old vehicle import ban, institution of conservation checks among other climate change mitigation mechanisms is geared at placing itself as a global center for investment, tourism and business meeting hosting.
