Zimbabwe sealed a second victory against Bangladesh to claim the Walton Test and ODI series as the country remains on a Test Cricket ban following a steak of poor performance with hope the win that comes after a win in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers Pool B Competition earlier signal’s the return of past cricket and sporting success for Zimbabwe.
Following continued poor performance by the team after the departure of former greats Andy Flower, Heath Streak, Henry Olonga, Tatenda Taibu among others, Zimbabwe slumped and saw a string of poor performances that included loosing to Bangladesh, Ireland and a lot of dismal outings that saw the country side-lined from the longer Test series to put it’s house in order.
Sikandah Raza sealed the ODI victory for Zimbabwe following a spirited double century at an Over 100% strike rate as Maiah and Regis Chakabva’s superb 102 from 75 balls saw 4 striked centuries in the two matches respectively to see Zimbabwe going on a 10 match unbeaten run.
Following a clean sweep in the series’ T 20 version of the tournament the fans have been motivated to support their team and posted a brilliant performance as they opted to follow the visitors score in both match’s as they won toss and opted to ball in both ODI matches.
With their option to restrict the visitors at cress having earned them the much needed results their bowling and fielding still needs polishing if they are to hold against international giants like South Africa, India, West Indies and Australia among other greats.
An exceptional middle order batting streak by Sikandah Raza in the second ODI as they followed a descent 290 despite playing the last 9th wicket on Cress saw Zimbabwe reaching the score with 15 balls to spare and claiming the match by 5wickets.
Sikandah seems to be cementing his all round status as he had seen a to a brilliant 3 wickets while conceding 56 runs when he had bowled earlier in the match.
However, with one match remaining in the ODI series the visitors have nothing to gain from the match other than tainting Zimbabwe’s unbeaten run and saving their faces.
The win potentially brings a change of fate in Zimbabwean sport as fans have been sidelined in national representation at most sporting disciplines owing to barns in Soccer, look warm performance by most national representatives.
