Zimbabwe beat Ireland in T 20 World Cup Opener

Zimbabwe survived an early 3 wicket loss scare to seal a 31 run victory in their opener at the T20 World Cup as Sikandar Raza posted an impressive 82 from 48 balls with Muzarabani taking 3 wickets.

In the win that brightens Zimbabwe’s chances to make it in the Super 12 Tendai Chitara and Richard Ngavara also claiming two wickets as they restricted Ireland to 143 against the 174 run target.

With early wickets by Josh Little as he took Regis Chakabva for no run and Wesley Madhevere for 22 having dampened Zimbabwean spirits, it took a spark of brilliance from Sikandar Raza to bring cheer on Zimbabwean faces.

Zimbabwe who had taken to the crease first took advantage of Raza’s 4th and 5th Wicket partnership with Sean Williams and Milton Shumba to set their pace.

After taking to crease, the Ireland team never seemed to be up for the win as Zimbabwe seemed to continue scripting a new trajectory for the International sports involvement starved fans.
